Ezra Jack Keats Foundation
Posted: May 12, 2010

Thanks to a grant from the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation, Easton students constructed a quilt based on the paintings of Louisiana Folk Artist Clementine Hunter. Mrs. Hannon’s 6th period Art class worked on creating a fascinating quilt that tells the story of the African American heritage in Louisiana. The quilt is on exhibition in the library for faculty and students to view.

One hundred and fifty new prom dresses were brought to New Orleans from Dallas by Ms. Sandy Diamond, Kirsten Kerrigan and Elise Murphy. These ladies asked for donations to dress manufacturing companies in Texas. This program is sponsored by Miss Marisa West, who selected Warren Easton to receive the gowns this year. www.promdressesforneworleans.org

A New Vision
Posted: May 05, 2010

Warren Easton is excited to partner with “Sight for Students” through the National Association of School Nurses, of which our school nurse, Ms Cassondra Ferrand is a member. Warren Easton students have the privilege of having school site vision exams performed by Dr. Madeline Borne. The complete exam is performed at school and if glasses are needed, the students can choose from a wide variety of frames. Dr. Borne then delivers the glasses to the students on her next school visit. Every student who requires glasses will receive them regardless of their financial status. The program has been a complete success this school year and we are looking forward to continuing it in the Fall.

Student Certificates

Each year, the Southern Regional Education Board awards Certificates of Educational Achievement to a select group of students who participate in the High Schools That Work Assessment test. These students completed a college-preparatory course of study in at least two of three subject areas, completed a concentration in a career/technical area, mathematics & science, or the humanities, and met the readiness goals in all three subject areas on the HSTW Assessment test. Only a small percentage of students each year meet or exceed the high standards necessary to earn awards. This year, 18 Easton seniors have received the High Schools That Work Award of Educational Achievement: Crystal Bass, Nelson Doubarere, Teira Escher, Tatyana Franklin, Terry Gordon, D’Antoine Hills, Deanna Hooks, Alesia Irvin, Sammietra Lewis, Sierra L’Herisse, Derick Lyles Christopher Martin, Garrett Reed, Derionne Sanchez, Jaimee Shelton, Joshanee Williams, Jade Wimby, Glenn Young.
